The Underdogs Barbell Club focuses on the 2 major lifts in Olympic Weightlifting: the Snatch and Clean & Jerk. The community is formed by people who have lots of passion in the sport, yet face many obstacles before them such as a 9-5 job, a busy travelling schedule and mobility issues. Our mission is to make the sport as accessible to the general public and not only reserved for the elites.
Olympic weightlifting is treated as an art by many. The passion to make both movements fluid, smooth and at the same time more powerful is the reason behind why the club was formed. Coordination, accuracy and mobility are the three elements that are essential in paving a solid foundation for this explosive sport. It is believed that smooth is fast and fast is smooth.
Classes are being run by our very own Coach Jon once a week using the Chinese weightlifting methodology and it is being monitored by Coach Wu, a member of China’s weightlifting and head coach of Singapore Weightlifting Federation, every 6-7weeks. Classes are drill-specific based on each individual's needs. The focus is about perfecting the movement and positioning and not necessarily about how heavy you can lift.
Beginners will be taught to focus on proper position before weights are being added. Intermediate to advanced lifters will focus on refinement of technique. We will also cover accessory lifts, programming and muscle conditioning related to the two main lifts.
